I moved to Newfoundland from the "mainland" in the spring of 2001, not exactly knowing what I would find. I quickly realized that I had discovered a place where the bond of community, the importance of family and the rugged isolation had come together to form one of the most unique cultures I had ever experienced. Being from Calgary, my lifestyle was accustomed to the quick, insincere pace of life that seems to have become the norm...I quickly learned there was more.
The term 'outport Newfoundland' is something I have become quite attached to... the romantic idea of simpler living, the balance between work and play, family and self is invigorating. I am inspired by these communities and the important values of life they can teach. There is a deeper meaning to things by the ocean, a greater realization of the impact we have on one another and the world we live in. As I evolve personally, the opportunity to paint the isolation of the outports, the rugged charm of the landscapes and the simpler things in life that are often nearly missed is something I am forever grateful for!
Thank you for visiting,
Sincerely,
